The Fitzrovia Radio Hour

Tuesday 26th – Saturday 30th July at 19:30.

Celebrating an age when radio was brand new and radio drama was stuffed with more stereotypes and cut-glass accents than afternoon tea at Lords, Fitzrovia use new material to recreate the spirit of vintage radio plays for a modern audience.

The show includes three rip-roaring tales: George Albion & the War of the Roses, Nazi Firemen in Westminster and Tin! All are new yet delightfully reminiscent of the golden age of radio. Witness vegetables simulating fistfights, thrill to a whisky bottle which is a dead ringer for a Nazi midget submarine and gasp at a watering can playing the roaring Atlantic. All these sound effects, and more, are created live on stage! This new show is sponsored by Clipstone Ceylon Tea!

The Fitzrovians revel in the glamour of a bygone era, from costume and performance to props. They transport audiences to their unique universe – a wonderful imagining of how commercial 1940s radio should have been done. The Fitzrovia Radio Hour lovingly satirise the casual imperialism and stiff upper lips of the period, throwing them into relief with physical comedy and a modern twist to produce a heady comic cocktail.

One Hollywood studio, one major action picture, one starring role, two dogs. A new comic play from BBC sitcom competition finalist Tom Glover.

When Hollywood’s hottest C-list celebrity walks off set as shooting is about to start on what could have been the action movie of the century, a desperate producer decides to cast a dog as his star. Some hasty re-writes and a canine casting session later, two talented action-hero pooches are in the running for the lead-role and must compete for it on camera.

Which dog will get the bone? Can true love win the day? Will the owner-trainers make sausage meat of one another? And will the movie ever be finished on time? There are no real dogs in this show but two very, very talented imaginary ones.

Tom Glover currently has Mother Dearest in development with the National Theatre and he was a finalist on the BBC’s All Mixed Up Sitcom competition with Human, Right?

Three actors take on multiple-roles in this fast-paced, satirical canine comedy caper. Tom Glover will perform in the show alongside Richard David-Caine and Zoe Gardner. Richard is one quarter of acclaimed sketch comedy group Four Screws Loose and was also recently seen in the Olivier-nominated West End production of Potted Panto. Zoe’s recent TV credits include We Are Mongrels (BBC) and Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show 2 and 3 (ITV2). Zoe is one half of comedy team The Congress of Oddities who have made numerous acclaimed live shows and a TV pilot for Celador Productions (The Odditorium). Her recent theatre credits include Colin Hoult – Enemy of the World (Edinburgh 2010); Coffee; and Carnival of Monsters (Edinburgh 2009).
