London Improv Theatre

I cannot act, there isn’t an inch of me that should be on stage or in front of a camera (unlike a friend of mine who is A brilliant actor, I hate her!), the thought of improv literally scares me into a sweaty panic attack, but there’re those crazy bastards who thrive on that type of adrenaline, step forward the London Improv Theatre.

Established in 2016 by Jake Lyons, the theatre plays host to Improv performances such comedy, sketches, music and even magic, oh how I love me a bit of magic.

A number of performances are on over September including an acoustic showcase (showcase performances are on the first Saturday of each month) , ‘Scared Scriptless’ where the participates improvise scenes based on audience suggestions and ‘The Magicians Showcase’ which I may well attend myself (love me a bit of magic).

If you’re after an evening of impromptu theatre, or in the mood to joy in yourself, pop on over to Swiss Cottage, it won’t disappoint.

The Time:  Varies

The Place:   London Improv Theatre, 104-A Finchley Road, Londnon, NW3 5JJ

Solar Eclipse 2017

On August 21st North America will see it’s first total solar eclipse in almost 100 years, lucky them, we won’t be so fortunate (I’m not bitter), but we will see a partial eclipse so not all is lost.

The partial eclipse will be visible throughout the UK (weather permitting) in the early evening, for Londoners it will start from around 7.40pm, will reach maximum eclipsieness at just after 8pm and will end at roughly 8.25pm.

Viewing an eclipse with the naked eye can be dangerous, watch the vid below for handy hints and tips on how best to view the event:

The next total solar eclipse won’t be visible in the UK until 23rd September 2090, so enjoy this while you can!

How to seeing a shooting star

On the 12th August the UK will bear witness to the most active meteor shower all year, with up to 80 meteors streaking through the sky..if we’re lucky, this sodding “summer” whether is doing my ******* head in, but I digress.

The duration of the shower is actually from the 17th July – 24th August, however the event will reach it’s peak on the 12th due to the earth passing through the most dense part of comet Swift-Tuttle’s trail.

According to timeanddate.com the best direction with which to view the shower is as follows:

“Made of tiny space debris from the comet Swift-Tuttle, the Perseids are named after the constellation Perseus. This is because the direction, or radiant, from which the shower seems to come in the sky lies in the same direction as the constellation Perseus, which can be found in the north-eastern part of the sky.”

The best place to see the shower well be up high and away from artificial lighting, not the easiest thing to do in a city, so if you have access (legally) to a flat roof or can get to a hill/open late park (again legally) then that’s your best bet.

The meteors will start to be visible from the early evening, so grab a blanket (hopefully not an umbrella), a buddy, some snacks and enjoy the show.
