A Sale with Style

photography-botond-istvandi-7-600x400

Car boot sales, we all love em. Getting up at some crazy hour of a weekend morning and venturing into a field or school playground to grab a bargain from a group of mad people who have been up since 4am…it’s the British way and I f’ing love it.

But what if you’re looking for an era specific item such as a record from the 70’s, or outfit for your swing dance class (swing dance is fun don’t mock it, I did almost break my face and leg but that’s neither here nor there), well then you NEED to head over to the Classic Car Boot Sale.

instagram_com-p-bloek6la3pz

Situated 5 mins from Kings Cross Station the CCBS offers vintage wares spanning across the decades, a live DJ playing golden oldies to keep the atmosphere lively and those who, like the gentlemen in the picture above, like to get dressed up for the occasion. I do love me a pair of two toned full brogues.

Vintage clothing and accessories, vinyl records, homeware and collectibles are all available, plus your foods and drinky-poos, vintage cars will also be on show, so if motoring is your thing then that should be reason enough to head on down.

The Yuletide festivities have come & gone and you’re fulfilling your New Years resolution of going to the gym, but you’re lagging, you feel your resolve starting to waiver, the enthusiasm you felt on the 4th Jan seems to have buggered off by the 14th, what to do???

You could stick with it, push through the ‘wall’ and battle on. There is nothing wrong with that, in fact ‘Big Up’ to you for persevering.

If you’re REALLY struggling you could consider joining an independent gym / Personal Trainer who might offer a personalised approach to training and keep you interested in the sweaty world of fitness.  If this sounds more like it then take a goosey gander at the suggestions below.

Malaysian goodies in real life Come Dine with Me

LondonJuly2013503_supperclubfangroup-ning-com

It’s Sunday, you’ve spent the day getting your things ready for work tomorrow, the weekend is basically over, and the depressive thought of another Monday morning has begin to wash over you, what is there left to look forward to?

How about a thrilling taste of Asia, in new comfortable surroundings, without the hassle of queueing or the possibility of a rude waiter. Sounds good right, well let me make this Sunday adventure more appealing by telling you there’ll be 8 course, that’s right 8 delicious courses of which you will not have to wash 1 dish, soak 1 pan nor will you have to tie a bin bag full of remains…have I got your attention, good.

Malaysian By May host regular Supper Clubs were you can experience beautifully crafted Malaysian fusion cuisine, and meet new people as the seating is communal. Unfortunately they cannot accommodate vegans or vegetarians as sub-ing the ingredients is a complete pain in the bum, that’s not to say it won’t be a possibility in future however, watch this space, maybe.

If any of this tickles your buds, (take that anyway you want) then I highly recommend that you contact the good people at Malaysian By May to reserve yourself a seat.

Lets start making Sundays more then just the ‘mental prep for Monday’s’ day!

The Great Garden Bake Off, King Henry’s Walk Newington Green North London

In association with the Chelsea Fringe the members of the King Henry’s Walk Garden invite one and all to their gaff for the Great Garden Bake Off. A day to celebrate plants, flowers baking and eating! From 10am-4pm there will be a variety of workshops, competitions and demonstrations for everyone it get involved with in this multi award winning community garden.

10am-12pm Junior Bakers Pizza making workshop: Who doesn’t love pizza, well why not get your little darlings involved in making their own. From dough kneading to picking fresh herbs from the garden, the kiddies will get the chance to experience every aspect of pizza making including the best part, the tasting.

There’re only 15 places available so book in advance by emailing rsvp@khwgarden.org.uk or call/text 07901 931 018

A £5 voluntary cover charge per child is suggested, however the organisers are open to haggling. Check the site for further details.

12-4pm Great Garden Bake Off Main Event: Fresh bread making demonstrations by local bakers will kick of the event, demo tickets can be bought for £3 per person, per session on the day. There will also be various stalls selling flowers, veggie plants and herbs plus bread tastings, so probably best to skip lunch.

The bake off competition, open to all, will include the following categories:

Signature Challenge: A loaf of bread made using at least 1 garden related ingredient

Technical Challenge: Chelsea Buns (bakers half dozen)

Showstopper Challenge: Cupcake war (bakers half dozen) time to get your decorating game face on. Competition rules and entry forms can be found on the website, including all the details I’ve probably missed.

Where are they: Near an adventure playground in Islington, I’m really bad with directions so here’s a handy map, the closest train stations are Canonbury & Dalston Junction, these’re roughly a 10min walk from the garden (East London Overground Line):

Buses: The 21, 30, 38, 56, 141 & 277 all stop close by.

Tube: Highnury & Islington Station is the closest tube station to the garden, but is still a 25ish min walk away, you can jump on the No 30 or 277 bus from Highbury corner to Ball’s Pond Rd which is a 5 min walk away.
